Each member of the McKenzie faculty brings a unique set of experience to the Institute. From physical therapy to orthopaedics, to sport therapy, to extremities all have a common and in-depth understanding of what their patients need and how they can benefit from the McKenzie Method®. All members of our staff have successfully completed their Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® and are actively in practice as required by educational policies of The McKenzie Institute International.

Cora Aytona graduated from the University of the Philippines Physical Therapy program in 1993 and completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of St. Augustine in Florida. She has been using the McKenzie principles of evaluation and treatment since 1998. She successfully completed the Diploma Program in 2002 and was appointed faculty for the McKenzie Institute in 2007. Cora is currently a Clinical Specialist at Southeastern Lifestyle Rehabilitation in Lumberton, North Carolina.

Yvonne Body graduated from Mount St. Mary’s College in 1990 with a B.S. in Physical Therapy and a B.A. in Psychology. She was formally introduced to the McKenzie approach in 1996 and continued on with her training. She attended the Diploma Program in 1999 and received the Dan Morgan Award of Excellence from the Institute. Yvonne has bee a faculty member of the McKenzie Institute USA since 2001 and teaches the entire educational series of courses given by the McKenzie Institute. She is currently in active clinical practice with PRN, in La Jolla.

Helen gained her Diploma in Physiotherapy at the New Zealand School of Physiotherapy (Otago NZ) in 1975. To further her experience, she shifted to Sydney, Australia. In 1983 she gained her postgraduate diploma in Manipulative Therapy. It was during this postgraduate training that her interest in the McKenzie Method of diagnosis and treatment expanded. She became a teaching faculty member of the McKenzie Institute Australia in 1985. Furthering her academic qualifications, she completed her Masters of Applied Science (Manipulative Therapy) in 1989. She was appointed to the position of International Director of Education for The McKenzie Institute International in January of 1999. Helen has had her own Physiotherapy Clinic in Sydney for 14 years combining clinical work with teaching and research.

Gary graduated from The Medical College of Georgia in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. Following completion of his residency program in Austin, Texas, he received his Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 2003. Gary currently is co-owner of Advanced Rehab Center, with clinics in Albany, Americus and Cordele, Georgia.

He was appointed to the teaching faculty of The McKenzie Institute, USA in 1992. Since returning from New Zealand, he has limited his practice to the evaluation and treatment of mechanical spine disorders. Dana co-owns and practices at Summit Physical Therapy in Syracuse, NY.

Dr. Steven L. Heffner has been a Board Certified Chiropractic Physician licensed in the state of Pennsylvania for 28 years. He finished his diplomate training in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) in 1997. Dr. Heffner is the director of spinal rehabilitation and work hardening at the Laurel Health System in Wellsboro, PA. He is a contributing author concerning MDT of the spine in four separate spinal rehabilitation clinical textbooks. Steve is the current Chairperson for the MIUSA Board of Directors.

Scott is a graduate of the physical therapy program at State University of New York at Buffalo. Scott originally attended courses with Robin McKenzie and completed his diploma in New Zealand in 1992. Appointed a US faculty member in 1993, an international instructor in 1994 as well as being a diploma tutor and extremity instructor, he brings a wealth of experience to his teaching. Scott has participated in and is currently active in research pertaining to the field of MDT and maintains clinical practice at St. David's Spine and Sports Therapy in Austin, TX.

Kristi is a 1997 graduate of Bowling Green State University’s Physical Therapy Program. Kristi began attending the McKenzie Institute courses in 2000 receiving her certification in 2001. In 2003, she was granted her McKenzie Institute International Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of the spine. Kristi was subsequently accepted to the teaching faculty in 2005 and is currently practicing at Carolinas Rehabilitation – Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC specializing in Spine and Orthopedics.

Greg earned his Master Degree from Faculty of Motor Rehabilitation in Warsaw, Poland in 1983. From 1984-1988 he was a clinical instructor in physical therapy assistant school in Lodz. He obtained a first degree specialization in motor rehabilitation and advanced certification in Neurodevelopment Treatment. In 1992 Greg became a licensed physical therapist in the state of Texas, and began education in the McKenzie approach. After graduating from the Diploma Program in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 1997, Greg worked in a multidisciplinary pain program where he successfully implemented the McKenzie Method. In November of 2003 he was appointed a US Faculty member. Currently he’s in private practice in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Robert is a graduate of the Georgia State University Physical Therapy program. After advanced studies in New Zealand with The McKenzie Institute in 1991, he was granted the McKenzie Institute International Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy of the Spine. He was subsequently named to the teaching faculty of The McKenzie Institute. He has taught numerous courses on the McKenzie approach to physicians and physical therapists throughout the United States and internationally. He has participated in published research studies on low back pain and cervical pain responses to mechanical interventions and the diagnostic accuracy of McKenzie’s mechanical assessment. Robert is Director of Spine Rehabilitation at Resurgens Spine Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

An honors graduate from the University of Windsor in Human Kinetics, Mark went on to pursue his degree in Physical Therapy in 1987 at the University of Toronto. He received a Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy from the McKenzie Institute in New Zealand in 1991. He joined the Canadian branch faculty that year and the USA faculty in 1993. Mark was appointed to the International faculty in 1995. Mark has been actively involved from a scientific committee and a guest lecturer perspective in many McKenzie and non-McKenzie related scientific conferences. He currently works in his private practice (owned and operated by Mark and his two partners) in Tallahassee, Florida. He is also the Vice-President of Integrated Mechanical Care (IMC), a company designed to connect MDT trained clinicians to perspective payers, while maintaining MDT quality control.

Hugh Murray, PT, Dip. MDT, received his degree in Physical Therapy from West Virginia University in 1976. He attended the Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Hayward, CA in 1979. He received his Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy from the McKenzie Institute International in 1991. He is presently in private practice in Charleston, WV with CPT Physical Therapy Specialists, Inc. a McKenzie Certified Clinic. He actively evaluates and treats patients, consults with industry, performs Functional Capacity Evaluations and consults with Work Hardening. CPT is in its 24th year of service to the Tri-State area.

Dave graduated from the Bradford School of Physiotherapy in the UK in 1993. After working for a few years in England, he relocated to the United States. He completed his Diploma in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in 2003 and was appointed part of the teaching faculty in 2005. Dave currently resides in Ann Arbor and is the Director of Physical Therapy in Motion in Saline, Michigan.

Jerry graduated from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School (Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science) in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy. He worked in both general acute and rehabilitation hospital settings for 14 years and the past 22 years in outpatient orthopedic settings. He started working with the McKenzie Method in 1992 and took the Diploma Program in Coon Rapids, MN in 1998. Since 1999, he has worked in a hospital owned orthopedic outpatient setting for Carle Foundation Hospital (Champaign-Urbana, Illinois area) working with all types of joint and mechanical spinal pain patients utilizing the McKenzie Method. He is currently a Faculty member since 2003 of the McKenzie Institute, USA branch.

Beata graduated from a motor rehabilitation master program in Katowice, Poland in 1989. There she held a teaching position in the department of physical therapy and was employed as a sport injury and prevention specialist for the first league handball team. Between 1990-1991 Beata managed a comprehensive, preparatory program for Polish physical therapists contracted to work in the U.S. Shortly after passing a licensing exam in Texas in 1992, Beata began her education in the McKenzie system. The initial interest was inspired by simplicity and logic of the method. Graduating from the MDT diploma program in 1996 allowed her to manage a diverse population of chronic pain patients in interdisciplinary pain programs. The combination of her neurodevelopmental, electrodiagnostic and MDT training sparked a special interest in utilizing McKenzie diagnostic and treatment principles with pediatric and adult patients suffering from mechanical pain associated with variety of disorders. That included multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy. rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, peripheral vascular conditions, cancer etc. At present Beata lives with her husband Greg and two children in Arlington, Texas. She works in a private clinic, which promotes patient empowerment through individually tailored programs in areas of exercise and nutrition. Beata teaches MDT courses in the U.S. and Poland.

Jon graduated the Physiotherapy program at the Royal London School of Physiotherapy (UEL) with Honors in 1994. He has practiced in an Outpatient Orthopedic environment since 1996. After completing the Diploma program in 2005 Jon entered the Faculty training program and has been teaching since 2008 Both in Israel and the US. He is currently actively involved in research and is in full time clinical practice at Team Care Physical Therapy a Certified McKenzie Clinic.
